KILLED IN ACTION

Mr and Mrs G H Spruce, 211 Hoole Lane, Hoole, have received official notification that their youngest son, L/Corpl Thomas Spruce, The Green Howards, has been killed in action. He was 24. After joining up in April 1940, he served three years in the Middle East, and returned to England last February. Before joining the Army he was employed by Messrs John Smith and Son, tailors, Eastgate Row. He will be remembered for his work at the Methodist Church, Piper’s Ash, where he was a member of the Sunday School and Christian Endeavour. Thomas Spruce had played in many inter-Service football teams representing countries where he had served in the Middle East. He will be greatly missed at the Piper’s Ash Church where he was greatly esteemed.
