Hoole War Memorial

Mr W K Williams asked whether the Hoole War Memorial could be restored so that names that were almost obliterated could be read. The Town Hall and Parliamentary Committee had resolved that arrangements be made for the name of Rifleman Stanley Cooper to be added to the list of names. Mr Williams said “if this is done this man’s name will be the only readable one. It is a matter of concern to people who lost relatives in war”. The chairman of the Committee Ald. Robert Frost, agreed to look into the matter. The omission of Rifleman Cooper’s name from the memorial was noticed a few months ago by his sister, Mrs Frances Coombs, who only recently returned to Chester after living for more than 20 years in Bury.
